NEWS - HARMOS GUITARS

About Us

"Harmos" means connecting point, and is the root for the word - harmony. The Harmos Space Frame Guitar joins form with structure and structure with sound for mechanical, visual and acoustic beauty.

Harmos Music, Ltd. is here to design, develop and build space frame based musical instruments for the adventurous musician who wants a unique instrument with amazing versatility and tonal strength. We use a combination of the latest carbon fiber materials and structural design geometry to build easy to play, light weight, affordable instruments with transparent tone and ultra-long sustain.

Harmos has created the world's first carbon fiber bodied steel guitar, and currently makes the only carbon fiber lap steel guitar available.

T. Sage Harmos

Sage was born in Billings Montana (1961) and grew up in Boulder Colorado, in love with music and fascinated by machines. The steel guitar is where those interests met. When he took up the steel in 1987, Sage also had an interest in Bucky Fuller's geometry.

"The debate in the steel guitar community over the role that mass plays in tone quality caught my attention. Most folks were saying that an instrument had to be massive in order to have good tone. I had a feeling that it had more to do with rigidity, and efficient transfer of string energy than raw mass alone. Some mass is required, obviously- what is there just has to be in the right place."

Over a period of ten years Sage nurtured the design and development of the structural space frame steel. The first prototype (completed in 1998) weighed two and a half pounds. In 2001 he started getting the guitar into the world, where it has been well received by some great players.

Sage studied Industrial Technology at Colorado State University. He has two beautiful children, a daughter and son. Sage lives in Minneapolis.

James Baecker

James has a technology background that includes an advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, 10 years working in product development and engineering management and 13 years in product engineering, manufacturing and International customer service (including several years living in the Middle East and Far East).
